This October saw the return of The Colour Fun Run to Oldbury Court Estate in Fishponds.
Under the new branding of See Change, several hundred people participated in this brightly coloured 5k course to raise funds for vulnerable, socially excluded people in Bristol and the South West.
The week prior to the event had forecast apocalyptic weather for the upcoming weekend, and although precautions were taken for the worst case scenario we got away with only a short rain shower all day. With the course marked out and the Event Village filled with traders selling delicious food and hot drinks, people began to arrive just after midday. Faces were painted and lots of paint pouches were purchased, already the colours were flowing before the race had even started!
Once all the participants were gathered, a short talk about the charity’s work and a big thank you was given before our sponsors The Gym took to the stage for a fantastic warm up to get everyone ready and raring to go. Then it was over to the starting line for the countdown at 2pm.
As the course isn’t timed, there was no pressure of pace with most people taking their time to enjoy the beautiful scenery (and of course get covered in paint!). Some of the more serious runners completed the course in as little as 25 minutes, with all participants through the finish line and medals collected within 90 minutes. Thanks to support from Water Logic, along with medals being handed out, all participants received a bottle of water to help rehydrate and cool down. After some final cups of coffee and tasty crepes were enjoyed, it was time for everyone to shake off the powder paint and head home!
See Change would like to thank everyone involved in The Colour Fun Run, from all the lovely people who took part and collected sponsorship donations, to our amazing volunteers who helped the day run smoothly, our wonderful sponsors, suppliers and the local community of Fishponds and the surrounding area for supporting the event for another year. You’re all awesome!
